Does Monoline Cover Trailers, Motorhomes & Manufactured Homes?

Yes, we provide coverage for trailers, motorhomes, and manufactured homes under our umbrella policy. How each is classified depends on whether the unit is drivable, non-drivable, or a permanent residential structure.

Coverage Classification

Drivable Vehicles Drivable campers and motorhomes are classified as "Autos" for umbrella purposes. This includes:

  • Motorhomes (Class A, B, and C RVs)

  • Any self-propelled motorized land vehicle that requires motor vehicle registration and/or operator licensing

These units should be included in the personal auto count when submitting for umbrella consideration.

Non-Drivable Units Non-drivable campers do not typically need to be included in the auto count, as they should extend from the underlying auto policy. This includes:

  • Pull-behind travel trailers

  • Fifth wheels

  • Other attached trailers

Underlying Insurance Requirements

To qualify for umbrella coverage, the primary insurer must meet the following requirements:

Minimum Liability Limits:

  • $300,000 Combined Single Limit (CSL), or

  • $250,000/$500,000/$100,000 split limits

Carrier Requirements:

  • Primary insurer must be an admitted carrier

  • A.M. Best Rating of B+ (VII) or higher

  • Please see our approved carrier list. If the carrier is not listed, you may select "other" for review.

Important Note

We are a follow-form policy, meaning our coverage follows the structure of your underlying policy. The specific classification and rating may vary depending on how your primary carrier has written the coverage, particularly if you are using carriers that distinguish between drivable and non-drivable units.

Manufactured Homes

Yes, manufactured homes are eligible for Monoline umbrella coverage, provided they meet the requirements below.

What Qualifies

A manufactured home is a factory-built structure that is installed at a fixed location. To be considered a primary residence, the home must be on a permanent foundation. This is different from a mobile home that is not permanently affixed and can still be relocated. If the home is not on a permanent foundation, it would fall under the motorhome or trailer classifications above.

Eligibility Requirements

To qualify for umbrella coverage, a manufactured home must meet both of the following:

  • Permanent foundation: The home must be permanently affixed to a foundation. This is what qualifies the structure as a primary residence. Homes that are still on wheels, axles, or a temporary setup do not qualify.

  • Qualifying underlying policy: The home must be insured under a manufactured home policy or a homeowners policy that provides personal liability coverage of at least $300,000 CSL or higher.

Carrier Requirements

The underlying policy must meet the same carrier standards as all other scheduled properties:

  • Primary insurer must be an admitted carrier

  • A.M. Best Rating of B+ (VII) or higher

  • Please see our Approved Carrier List
